To make your experience more comfortable, we want to share our FAQs about STI testing.
How Do I Know I Need Orlando STI Testing?
If you have engaged in any activity that can expose you to an STI, such as oral, vaginal, or anal sex or sharing needles for intravenous drugs you should consider testing. Knowing your STI status is a critical first step towards stopping further transmission.
Do STIs Have Symptoms?
Many STIs do not have any initial symptoms, and others have symptoms that can come and go over time. Although each infection has its own specific symptoms, some common ones may include:
- Bumps or sores around your genitals
- A burning sensation when urinating
- Pain during sex
- Unusual discharge
- Pain, itching, or swelling around your penis, vagina, or anus
- Fever, body aches, exhaustion
What Can I Expect From Orlando STI Testing?
When you meet with your healthcare provider at Harmony Healthcare, they will ask you a variety of questions about any symptoms you are having, your sexual history, and other information that is relevant to your care. You can share as much as you feel comfortable sharing, but remember that the more information your provider has, the better they can care for you.
Next, your provider will begin the testing process. There is no specific test for all STIs, so your healthcare provider will recommend the right ones based on your situation. Your STI test may involve one or more of the following:
- Physical examination
- Urine sample
- Blood test
- Oral swab and/or rectal swab
Once testing is completed, any samples collected will go to the lab for analysis. This could take anywhere from a few hours to several days, and your healthcare provider will contact you with the results.
