Take Charge Of Your Health With A Wellness Exam

What is a wellness exam?
A wellness exam is a full body checkup to help medical providers keep track of your health, catch problems early, and prevent illnesses. This wellness exam is designed for women and patients assigned female at birth (AFAB) for early detection of cervical and breast cancers.
What Is Included In Our Wellness Exams?
As part of your wellness checkup, we provide vaccine screenings, blood pressure checks, lab work as recommended, cervical screenings, and breast exams, including the following exams for those who need them.
  • Pelvic Exam – A pelvic exam checks for internal lumps or pain. During the exam, you’ll feel pressure in the middle and sides of your abdomen. Be sure to speak up if you feel any discomfort or tenderness because that may indicate an issue that needs to be addressed.
  • Pap Smear/Cervical Exam – Every year, approximately 11,500 cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed, and about 4,000 people die from this type of cancer. With proper screening, these numbers can drop drastically. This routine procedure can cause some anxiety, but we will do everything possible to keep you relaxed and answer your questions. During the exam, the provider will place a lubricated speculum into your vaginal canal to obtain a clear view of your vulva, vagina, and cervix. The healthcare provider will carefully collect a sample from your cervix using a cotton swab. This sample will be sent to a lab for analysis to check for any cervical cancer indications and to ensure your cervix’s overall health.
  • Breast Exam – During your breast exam, the provider will ask you to raise one arm behind your head so that they can better examine each side. The painless exam involves gentle, circular movements to check for lumps or cysts.

Why do I need a wellness exam?
Wellness exams are important because they allow for early detection of any changes or abnormalities in your body that could indicate a more serious health condition. Catching these conditions early can make treatment more effective and less invasive.
How often should I get a wellness exam?
Cervical cancer screenings are recommended for people assigned female at birth by the age of 25 or once they are sexually active. After your wellness exam, you may require additional screenings; this can be discussed with your healthcare provider during your exam.
How much does a wellness exam cost?
Our office accepts some major insurance plans. However, we offer a sliding scale discount based on income if you are uninsured. If you cannot afford your office visit, you can apply here, and a member of our team will reach out to you.
