Top 5 LGBTQ Christmas Movies For Your 2022 Watch List
December 23, 2022Start the New Year With Your Health In Mind – Find STI Treatment In Orlando
January 30, 2023The countdown is on to 2023! Grab your confetti and noisemakers, and stay safe this New Year’s Eve with these tips from our Kissimmee STI clinic.
New Year’s Eve is a time to celebrate – the year that’s passed and the year that is to come. Whether you’re staying up all night at the party of the year or having a chill night at home with family and friends, at Harmony Healthcare Orlando, we want safety to be on your NYE checklist. Keep these tips in mind while you prepare for the clock to strike midnight.
Party In Pairs & Go Out In Groups
The buddy system from your childhood kept you safe as a kid, and it’s still the best way to go out on New Year’s Eve. So many party-goers are out and about, it’s easier to get lost or find yourself in a dangerous situation. Staying with a friend is a smart way to stay safer on the night when everyone is trying to have the night of their lives.
These tips are good any time of year but are especially important on NYE because there are more people at parties, clubs, and on the roads than usual.
- Be aware of your surroundings – Make note if someone is following you or a friend.
- Trust your gut – Ever have a “gut feeling” that something isn’t right? That’s your body (and brain) telling you to pay attention. Don’t ignore this warning.
- Don’t leave your drink alone – Never set your drink down to hit the dance floor or visit the restroom. The sad truth is that people will take advantage of an abandoned drink and may try to put drugs in it.
Keep The Fire Out Of Fireworks
If you’re a sparkler fan or a bottle rocket babe, you’re probably not a stranger to a fireworks stand. Fireworks can be a fun and festive way to celebrate the new year, but be careful! It should go without saying, but fireworks cause fires and injure thousands of people in the U.S. every year. You’re better off letting the professionals handle the fireworks this NYE. Not only will you and your friends stay safer, but the firework show will likely be much more impressive. Here’s a list of places to see fireworks in the Orlando area.
Have An End-Of-The-Night Plan
After the ball drops and the midnight kiss is over, it will be time to head home. If you have been enjoying celebratory champagne or another adult beverage of your choice, stay out of the driver’s seat. Have your designated driver drive you home, or if your group didn’t have a DD, use Uber, Lyft, or another ride-share program. Are taxis still a thing? You could also hire a cab. New Year’s Eve is the deadliest night of the year for traffic accidents, so have a plan and practice safety when the festivities are over for the night.
Mind Your Health
Prepare for your big night out by being mindful of your physical and mental health. A new year can bring excitement for some but for others, it may cause anxiety. If you find yourself feeling anxious, find someone to talk to, and consider having a low-key night in with some close friends or family.
You can keep your physical health in check by getting regular STI tests at any of our clinics. We take your health seriously and we want to make it easy for you to take it seriously too.
