Be Thankful For Your Health With A Check-Up
December 8, 2023What Is The HIV Care Continuum?
January 19, 2024It’s a brand new year and the perfect time to start taking better care of yourself! Start the year off right with a check-up at our Orlando LGBTQ clinic.
Reflecting on the past year, we recognize how hectic it can get—final exams at college, bustling travels to reunite with family, celebratory gatherings filled with food, drinks, and late nights.
As we enter the new year, it’s the perfect moment for a refreshing reboot. If New Year’s resolutions are your thing, a January health check may be the jump start you need. And even if you don’t make “new year, new you” affirmations, taking control of your health is a smart way to start the year. Let our caring staff in our Orlando LGBTQ clinic check your check-up off your to-do list.
Convenient and Caring
Choosing a healthcare partner can be daunting. You want someone who gets you. You want a staff that makes your visit easy and comfortable. At Harmony Healthcare, our clinics love walk-in appointments! Sure, you can call ahead, but if squeezing one more thing into your busy day is too much to plan, just stop by, and we’ll take care of your check-up in no time.
Our staff has been serving our LGBTQ community for years, and our patients keep coming back because they feel welcome and cared for. One of our valued patients recently left this review for us:
“Very convenient location; very thorough and professional providers. They provide all the medical services you need in a great setting and are extremely efficient. Highly recommend!”
Inclusive Wellness Exams
Wellness exams tailored to the LGBTQ community encompass crucial components like pelvic exams, cervical screenings (pap smears), and upper body examinations. These exams are conducted with sensitivity and understanding, considering the unique health needs of individuals within the LGBTQ spectrum.
Pelvic exams are essential for everyone’s health, providing screenings for reproductive health concerns, while cervical screenings, like pap smears, play a pivotal role in detecting early signs of cervical cancer.
Upper body exams are equally significant, including breast/chest examinations for anyone with breast tissue, focusing on early detection of abnormalities. These comprehensive health checks are conducted in a supportive and inclusive environment, ensuring that individuals receive quality healthcare that addresses their needs and concerns.
And While You’re Here…
As part of your wellness exam, the staff at our Orlando LGBTQ clinic can also perform STI tests and offer treatment options if you need them. We are currently testing for the following STIs:
- HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus)
- HSV-2 (Genital Herpes)
- Chlamydia
- Gonorrhea
- Syphilis
- And various other infections
Some STIs might not show symptoms at first, so getting tested is crucial for early treatment. Our supportive team is here to provide both testing and treatment as part of your overall healthcare.
PrEP and PEP
We are proud to offer HIV prevention and exposure treatment options at our Orlando LGBTQ clinic at no cost to our patients.
PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is highly recommended for individuals facing a higher risk of contracting HIV. This includes those in sexual relationships with HIV-positive partners, individuals engaging in unprotected sex, injection drug users, and those with a history of sexually transmitted infections. Taking PrEP daily substantially decreases the risk of getting HIV when exposed to the virus, providing a vital safeguard for those most vulnerable.
Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) treatment is a preventive measure against HIV after potential exposure to the virus. When someone has had unprotected sex or shared injection drug equipment with an HIV-positive partner, PEP is typically recommended. Treatment involves taking antiretroviral medications for a month to reduce the likelihood of contracting HIV after exposure. Ideally, PEP needs to be initiated as soon as possible, preferably within 72 hours of HIV exposure.
